PPG breakthrough is great also
along with the paint, what is the best exterior primer to use?
PPG Perminizer
Whatever brand you use don’t thin down your final coat.
Protect against wind!?! 😂
I enjoy using latitude haha I get it for $50
Did you try PPG Permanizer?
Great comparison. thanks.
I really appreciate the idea of pricing because this lets me know what i should expect
Lol….
Big box store #1 &2.
Give me a brake.
Do you have a favorite exterior trim paint?
I used Valspar on my HardiePlank lap siding – the best I could get from Lowe’s back in 2001. I’m just now repainting in October 2024.
BEHR exterior with primer is awful.
I'm American, so forgive my ignorance. 50g of volatile organic compounds per liter seems a lot I mean I'm VAGUELY familiar with the metric system….
That's a lot, right?
That behr marquee is about $94 here in canada. And the BM aura is about $120-130 i think.
Painting over 34 yrs and Marquee is the best for exterior paint projects if we talk about durability even when many painters saying that Behr paint products runs easily and to be honest i disagree with all these guys because we as painters should know how heavy a coat of paint can be applied with the sprayer machine so if you exceed that limit any paint will run so its about the painter the only thing i don't like about Behr products is that you only can buy it at the Home Depot and we all know Home depot has the worst customer service and they will make you wait in purpose if you complain about waiting time, I complain a lot of times but i make a lot of noise so they can be expose them to customers and you force the store manager to do something about it , when someone don't care about my waisted time waiting i feel that they are disrespecting me.
Behr paint is ok, however Behr company is hard to deal with. I stopped buying Behr. (they refused to give me color fan to use while giving the paint quotes). No more Behr.
Are these paints semi gloss, flat, water based or oil? What about for the roof awning underneath?
I used Dutch Boy exterior paint about 5 years ago. Black on top of old black paint. Covered great of course, and still looks good. Dutch Boy owned by SW. They own Valspar also.
I remember about 1980 in college. I worked at Sears, Employee #13805, (store 1540/Lafayette Square/Speedway Indiana) who at the time, had the best paints to be honest. I still remember stock numbers… Let's see 11469 our best paint roller and 33015… Weatherbeater white… Scarred for life I am…
I always dreaded spring and all the over winter frozen latex paint coming in. "Something is wrong with it." Yep, you stored in the unheated garage didn't you. Ohh, that classic few inches of clear yellowish liquid then the 2/3rd of granulated color below… AND, fall when people would come in wanting exterior paint and the temps were falling into the freezing range. We would warn every one of them that if they put it on below around 45 degrees they would have problems in the future as it wouldn't cure correctly, but hey they knew better. IN the spring they'd be coming in, "You sold me bad paint…" as it was coming off the wall outside after having not been cured and then freezing on the wall during the cold night… Sure it made it to Spring then came off. WE finally stopped selling it after a certain date…
Oh and and the people dragging the "INterior" paint cans into the store after painting it on the outside, oh that Sunflower Yellow, I don't know what hold it had on people… I coulda got it for you in weatherbeater but hey, that was twice as expensive (like 15 bucks in 1980 a gallon) vs that INterior paint. But, hey I painted this on my house and it washed off first storm. YEP, see where it says INterior, like INside, not outside? See that large lettering on the back "For use on interior applications ONLY"?
We always tried to talk to people, but on busy Saturdays they were lining up at the registers… We won a national award once for sales… AND, since we were Sears, it was "Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back…" and we did it… But we did draw the line at paying for labor and stupidity…unless they were really a KAREN (they didn't have that name back then but.., if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…) and we'd call the manager down and he'd give them money for their labor and stupidity… They really had to be Aholes thought to get it. But for the regular people, they remembered our little polite lectures on the proper use of paint and the fact we DID give them their money back.
And I also worked in Paint in the early 70's high school before going to the Marines who paid for my FREE college and those thousand of four gallon boxes of paint I hefted gave me the best upper body strength and helped me get through boot camp like a champ…
What paint do you use on OSB? I've read that it's important to realize OSB absorbs water.
I find Behr is finicky in terms of flashing. I much prefer Glidden.
Emerald Rain Refresh is $75 per gallon at my local SW store.
Hello from Canada. I have been following your Channel for a while, and I must thank you for the quality of information provided. Using your videos (tutorials) I gained sufficient confidence to repaint my kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and things turned out amazingly great. I bought a beginner HVLP sprayer(fuji semi-pro) and have zero regrets. Now I want to tackle my metal garrage doors with my HVLP sprayer/turbine. Both Homedepot and Behr Canada say that none of their paints can be thinned. Sherwin-W suggested their Latitude paint at about $140 a gallon (Canadian) It's too costly for me. Do you have any advice or other recommendations… ? Thanks in advance.
"…even spoke with brand reps…" It's called influencing the influencer. He uses $5 Glidden on his own house.🤣
I would really like to use a flat paint if possible. Is there a behr exterior paint that does better with a flat sheen? Would you really recommend not using a flat finish? I have a painted stucco home and I think flat would likely look better unless it looses a substantial amount of durability, durability is obviously important as well. Also, Dollar tree has great cheap painting supplies if anyone needs good quality cheap angled brushes
